Best Industry-Linked Technical Institute-2017 Award For –DKTE

Well known for its application oriented textile and engineering education and close ties with the textile industry, DKTE Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji has won prestigious ‘Best Industry-Linked Technical Institute-2017 Award’ in the nation-wide survey jointly conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and   Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). This is the second time that the DKTE emerged as the winner of this coveted award .The students graduating from institute should meet the challenging changing requirements of today’s industry and the changing requirements of industries can be met by the students studying in good industry linked institutes. Therefore, there is need for good industry linked institutes. The objective of this survey was to assess and reward the institutes with good industry interaction.

This award was presented to Prof. (Dr.) P.V.Kadole, Director, and Prof. (Dr.) U.J.Patil, Dy.Director, DKTE Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji at 7th Global University–Industry Congress concluded on 8th December 2017 at AICTE head quarters, New Delhi by Prof. Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairman AICTE, Mr. Vijay Thadani, Chairman, CII National Committee on Higher Education, Mr. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretory, DST, GoI.

As many as 9525 colleges across the country had shown interest in the survey, however, the AICTE-CII chose 786 of them. This was the sixth such survey conducted by premier bodies for the educational institutes working in engineering, management, pharmacy and architecture. Self financing, government, government aided and centrally funded institutes like IITs, NITs and IISERs qualified for the survey.

The entire process was online where institutes were asked to fill in all the data of their curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, placements, governance, and research & services for the year 2015-16 and 2016-17. The survey was conducted in different stages. In the first short survey, 9525 institutes from all over India participated by filling the information online. 4790 institutes were shortlisted for the second stage full survey based on their scores in first stage. 2162 disciplines from 786 institutes participated in full survey. After generating objective scores for the full survey, subsequent screening and short listing was done by an eminent jury comprising experts from industry and academia. The jury comprised of Vice-Chancellor G.G.S.University, New Delhi, Prof.K.K.Agarwal Former Head & Dean Delhi University, Prof.J.K.Mitra Chancellor Emiretus, and Prof.Raju Chandrasekhar Director MNIT Jaipur. After the first level of screening, 130 institutes were short listed by jury and in the final level of screening and interaction with respective institutes and industries; jury finalized 9 institutes for the award in different categories. DKTE emerged as the winner in Chemical & Allied Engineering Institute category in this survey

DKTE Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute participated in this national level survey and provided all the necessary documents of industry institute interaction. Also in the final stage of survey, an imminent jury comprising experts from industries and academia interacted with the industries associated with DKTE and impressed by the commendable progress   made by the institute in the area of training, placements and MOUs with industries. They were also impressed by the 100% placement record, training in industries of textile graduates for the last 35 years.

DKTE Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji, an autonomous institute with A+ NAAC accreditation, popularly known as DKTE, was founded in 1982 by K.B.Awade and few other industries. Since its inception, DKTE has produced more than 8000 engineers in textile and other engineering disciplines.DKTE has grown multifold since its inception and has branched into other fields, besides textiles. The institute currently offers three diploma courses, ten bachelor degrees and eight post graduate degrees along with the facility to carry out Ph.D. Its unique strength lies in disciplinary expertise in areas ranging from basic textile technology to far more advanced technical textiles. The curriculum is flexible and industry oriented.DKTE Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute has an ultra modern and world class infrastructural facility in the form of spacious buildings which are equipped with excellent amenities. It has well equipped laboratories and workshops with state-of-the-art machinery and equipments. The institute has a spacious (1200 sq. m.), cozy & modern library, designed to meet the learning needs of the budding technocrats. It has more than 3200 students and close to 200 highly qualified staffs.

The DKTE Institute, since the beginning, was directed to conduct cooperative research, integrated with graduate research, as a means of helping the textile industry meet the challenges confronting it. Today, DKTE enjoys an international reputation for the high quality of its programs and its graduates, many occupying leadership positions in industry, education and research.

The faculty members of this Institute are deeply engaged in carrying out research sponsored by industry as well as in-house research. As a result of this, as many as 650 research papers have been published / presented by the faculty members in reputed national and international journals as well as in important national and international conferences.
