Sensitization of 50 Cotton Growing Farmers to latest trends in textiles, Clothing the Underprivileged & History of Textiles to shine at Sasmira's ‘Texathon’ this Sunday!

Sasmira Alumni Foundation (SAF) joins hands with Goonj for ‘Texathon’, world’s first and only marathon organized by the textile community on 9th July 2017

SASMIRA at Worli is a landmark of Mumbai with strong roots in Textile sector since last   50 years which has trained over 30,000 professionals who run businesses globally today, have come together to form Sasmira Alumni Foundation (SAF) to give an impetus to a cause which truly needs to be voiced.  The concept, aptly titled NO NAKED CHILD, is a unique initiative which aims to provide clothing to under privileged children across the country by hosting TEXATHON, this Sunday which is an effort to galvanize the alumni and others from the textile industry in a unique way to execute the world's 1st Textile Community Run, "Texathon", scheduled for 9th July 2017.

Texathon is surely going to be a milestone event of sorts because of the support received from the Cotton growing farmers from Vidarbha and Latur areas of Maharashtra. Around 50 farmers will be participating in the run to voice the cause. The whole idea is that the entire value chain right from producers (farmers) to manufacturers (Textile Industry) to end users (community) will be participating in the run. The event thereafter will see the farmers being exposed to latest trends in technology serving the growing textile industry. SAF will facilitate the visit of this farmer community to the Government of India designated, “Centre of Excellence for agro-textile” at the Sasmira campus in Worli. Mr. Manish Daga of SAF and coveted as Cotton Guru shares,  "First time ever in history of any Marathon of any size, COTTONGURU™ is able to initiate and mobilize 50 genuine & progressive Cotton farmers to participate 'without any complaint and demand' with the sole intention of getting them accepted as an integral part of the cotton textile supply chain".

Texathon has also tie-up with Goonj, a national NGO recognized for its vast reach in addressing basic need of clothing through its various campaigns across the country, SAF has reached out to many helping hands to give their surplus to the NO NAKED CHILD cause. Mr. Charan Ahuja, Project Head – No Naked Child, Sasmira Alumni Foundation.

Ms. Kavita Gupta, Textile Commissioner who lends her support to the event shares, "I am really very happy that SAF has put together this first of its kind event in the world which throws light on two key aspects, one is the cause of No Naked Child which means clothing for the under-privileged through the run and other is the Physical Fitness which takes a back seat in this otherwise glamorous world.  Texathon has thus aimed to bring two energies together making it a memorable event for the Textile fraternity".

Mr. Mahesh Bapat, Secretary, Sasmira Alumni Foundation (SAF), adds, “Texathon” is aimed at the textile community, but it will also be embracing all runners, professionals across the community and those wanting to make a difference by being a part of this first of its kind initiative and keeping alive the rick culture of Textile sector”.

“Texathon” will be run at distances of 10k, 5k, 3.5k respectively on 9th July 2017. It is a perfect Monsoon run with the heavy rains to cool the runners down. The marathon will traverse through scenic parts of Worli Seaface, Dadar, Prabhadevi etc. This marathon will give a chance to people to participate in an initiative which will help in clothing underprivileged children. The aim of this marathon is to raise funds which will help to support “No Naked Child”.

SAF invites the fraternity and the community at large to be a part of this life changing initiative at http://texathon.com/
